Event Details

Every Friday 10 am – 1pm we run a craft group in the museum. This is a social group where volunteers can catch-up while learning about new skills and trying them out.

The group’s main focus is making costumes for our village – developing outfits based on sources to recreate the idea of general life around 700.

Each session has a topic that might be to learn a new skill, learn its history or try a new technique. However, you can always carry on with other skills already learnt and our existing volunteers are happy to show you what you’ve missed.

We regularly have:

  • Wool spinning
  • Heddleboard weaving (a simpler version of tablet weaving)
  • Lucet chord making

Coming soon this group will also include leatherwork and calligraphy.

*** Free Tea, Coffee and biscuits!***
