Volunteers needed for repair of ‘The Flush’ Pond (and Geese Paradise) Project.
Back when Jarrow Hall was Bede’s World a water pump fed into a pond, known as ‘The Flush’, which waters ran through the grounds creating several wetland systems. We intend for these systems to be gradually reinstated naturally with the focus on increasing the biodiversity of Jarrow Hall’s land and gardens.
We also want to create more enriching enclosures for our animals and currently our geese are feeling a little bit shy. They would benefit from a more secluded spot within the farm where they can hide away amongst the trees and enjoy a splash in deeper waters. And The Flush would be a perfect home for them.
So, we need volunteers to help us restore The Flush to a thriving aquatic environment, which will also be a home to two very happy geese. We intend to repair the old damaged infrastructure, create fenced off areas so the geese can’t devour all the plants (which they would gladly do quite quickly), remove the current invasive plants species, add seeds and young aquatic plants from our sister site at West Boldon Lodge and create a section at the top of The Flush perfect for two new bee hives.
