Did you know you can see some replica Anglo-Saxon farming equipment on display outside in our Farm area?

Anglo-Saxon ploughs were pulled by Oxen. The Ploughshare would break up the soil, whilst the Coulter would make groves to plant the seeds. All this is made easier to move by attached wheels. The use of ploughs pulled by Oxen was in response to peoples growing need for food. Prior to this, crops would have likely been harvested by hand.

Many tools have not survived due to the material they were made from. Occasionally, in the right environment objects can be preserved.
