Members of our Green Gym have had a busy couple of months at Jarrow Hall, developing new areas around the farm and village and helping out on our JAM dig in September.

Our green exercise volunteers have recently completed work on the bushcraft area near our reconstructed village, with the addition of a mini woodland walk for schools, groups and families visiting the farm. The woodland walk is now open to schools and visitors, with seating available in the bushcraft area for those wishing to take a mindful break in the greenery. One group of students finished off their year by having a bushcraft session featuring some very traditional marshmallows. The next stage is to add an Anglo-Saxon theme to the area.
As well as usual path maintenance duties, Green Gym volunteers also worked on the final preparatory tasks ahead of the arrival of Ruh in July by levelling his pen. The team also got involved in one of our Sage corporate volunteering days, combining forces with Sage volunteers to build a new fence between the cattle enclosure and sheep. They’ve also been cutting back the amphitheatre area ready for the work to be carried out this Autumn.
At the end of September the team also had the opportunity to join the Jarrow Archaeological dig. They unearthed quite a bit, including a plate and a bottle of poison, and everyone is looking forward to getting involved again next year.
