Young Innovators at Jarrow Hall – call out for 13–19 year olds
Jarrow Hall Anglo-Saxon Farm, Village and Bede Museum is launching Young Innovators, a new arts and culture project that hands creative control to young people. We’re looking for a group of young people aged 13–19 to work with our Creative Producer to design and deliver a new event, activity, experience or installation at Jarrow Hall.
What is Young Innovators?
Young Innovators uses arts and culture as a catalyst for youth engagement and creativity. Together, you will:
- Explore your interests and ideas.
- Co-create an experience for Jarrow Hall.
- Shape how other young people experience culture at the museum and farm.
You’ll usually meet at Jarrow Hall 1–2 times a month during term time, most likely at weekends, with exact dates and times agreed together with the Creative Producer. Reasonable travel expenses can be reimbursed so that cost is not a barrier, and refreshments will be provided.
The project responds to a gap in our current offer for young people and aims to make sure your ideas, concerns and interests are reflected in what we do.
What will I gain?
As a Young Innovator, you will:
- Have your ideas heard and turned into real outcomes on site.
- Gain agency, confidence and professional experience in a workplace setting.
- Develop creative, teamwork and project skills alongside your peers.
- Contribute to a public exhibition at Jarrow Hall celebrating the project in early 2027.
- Receive a certificate recognising the skills you have developed.
You’ll be supported throughout by a Creative Producer and Jarrow Hall staff, who will help you plan, budget and deliver your ideas.
Who are we looking for?
We welcome interest from young people who:
- Are aged 13–19.
- Live in Jarrow / South Tyneside.
- Are interested in creativity, culture or making change locally (no previous arts experience needed).
- Can commit to regular sessions between May 2026 and February 2027.
We particularly encourage young people who don’t usually see themselves represented in museums or cultural spaces to get involved.
Themes and inspiration
You will be invited to respond to themes from the Jarrow Hall Master Plan: Environment, Science, Climate Change and Communication, under the wider story of Bede and Anglo-Saxon Northumbria. How you interpret these themes is up to you.
How to get involved
To express your interest, please email [email protected] with the subject line “Young Innovators” and tell us:
- Your name and age.
- Where you live.
- Why you’d like to be involved (a few sentences or a short audio/video link is fine).
If you have any access needs or questions about taking part, please include this in your email so we can support you.
Deadline for expressions of interest: Monday 23rd March.
