Hello everyone!
It’s been an exciting week for JAM as we’ve finally peeled back the Terram Membrane to see our beautiful Trench 1 again.

Caption: What a beauty.
Thank you to all of our wonderful volunteers who helped make this happen.

We were also joined by some very special guests this week. On Friday, young people with Escape Intervention joined us for MindfulJAM, a quiet morning on site for support groups and community initiatives.

We were also joined on Saturday by YAC, or Jarrow Hall’s Young Archaeologist Club, and together these inexhaustible young people helped to uncover our trench extension and suspected wartime structure.
Next week, we’ll be joined by Masters Students from Newcastle University, as we begin excavations properly.
We were also joined by Dr. Gianluca Foschi, as he shared his research on medieval Rome as a multi-sensory ecclesiastical landscape. It was an absolute delight to have him with us, and an honour to see his work uncovering both the visual and auditory experience of medieval pilgrims.
If you missed it, don’t worry because the next JAM Lecture is coming sooner than you think. We’ll be joined by Dr. Marta Alberti on the 12th of June who will be revealing evidence of Early Christianity at Vindolanda. So if you’re interested, get yourself a ticket, we promise it’s worth it!
