Jarrow Hall offer immersive learning experiences focused on Anglo-Saxon and Viking History, Daily Life, Farming and St Bede. Book an Education visit with our award winning team today.
Our knowledgeable and passionate staff bring learning to life: Whether your KS1 class is learning about ‘Changes through Time’, your KS2 pupils are practicing Anglo-Saxon battle techniques or your group is taking part in our Farm School, our immersive teaching and learning approach enables children to gain knowledge, connect with nature, culture and heritage, and truly understand topics.

We are pleased to launch our new interactive online prospectus for schools and educational practitioners that provides easy access to our wide range of immersive outdoor learning sessions. All of our sessions are linked to the National Curriculum and are tailored to meet the needs of each individual group of learners.

Jarrow Hall education team want to reach out to teachers and those working with young people in a learning environment, to get involved and help us understand how we can develop our learning programme and museum accessibility to meet the needs of all learners. We deliver immersive workshops as a fun and informal way for educational practitioners to take a peek behind the scenes and learn how we can tailor and deliver sessions to meet specific groups of learners. Booking your Education Visit
Our school trips and outreach sessions include links to the history, geography and science curricula, as well as programmes designed to enrich the lives and learning of your pupils. Through all of our delivery, we aim to foster an interest in learning, a connection with the world around us, and to develop essential life skills such as communication, team working and self-confidence. Whether you are visiting for half a day or a full day, you will be led by a full trained and experienced member of our Education Team.

Guided Tours
We offer regular guided tours of Jarrow Hall by our team of volunteers – follow us on social media or get in touch to find out when the next guided tour is scheduled. If one of our volunteers are available they will be happy give you a free tour of our Anglo-Saxon Farm, Village and Bede Museum. If you want to guarantee a tour guide is available for your visit, please get in touch to check availability. A small charge may apply for group tours. Frequently Asked Questions
I am a tour guide, can I bring a group? – Yes. We don’t charge extra for independent tour groups but we would ask you to book in advance. We can also, for a small fee, arrange for refreshments and a private space to enjoy them should you wish. Get in touch for more
I would like to bring a group of students, what can you offer? – We have a dedicated team of educational experts who will discuss your needs and packages available to you. We also offer outreach and on-line/digital engagement. If you wish to discuss our education packages, please get in touch here.
Jarrow Hall Education Group Membership
Education Group Membership is specially designed to allow education groups entry to Jarrow Hall during normal opening hours for a one-off fee. This is a self-led visit to our Bede museum and Anglo-Saxon Farm, Village.
Jarrow Hall is open to the public Thursday to Sunday during South Tyneside School term times with a winter closure period between mid-December and February Half Term. Occasionally, special education activities may be offered however, these will come with an additional charge.
Group leaders can gain access to the museum free of charge for planning and preparation of group visits.
All group visits must be pre-booked at least 10 days in advance to ensure that there is adequate space at Jarrow Hall for everyone to enjoy.

The Sandford Award
Jarrow Hall has received The Sandford Award, an independently assessed, quality assured assessment of formal, curriculum-aligned and site led heritage learning programmes. Recognition is also given to our informal learning family programmes and self-guided provision.
The award scheme is managed by the Heritage Education Trust in partnership with Bishop Grosseteste University.
