Our risk assessments are updated annually (or as the need arises), and they should be used to make yourself and other school staff aware of the activities. They should not be used to replace your risk assessments – but you are welcome to use them to inform your own.

Farms and Settlements
Enjoy a guided tour of our reconstruction Farm and Village, which houses heritage breed animals and specially constructed, timber Early Medieval buildings.
Anglo-Saxon Kingdoms and Battles
Explore the military side of Anglo-Saxon life. Much of this workshop focuses upon handling replica weapons and armour. Afterwards, we will use historical sources to re-enact a battle from the Anglo-Saxon period.
Anglo-Saxon Crime and Punishment
Anglo-Saxon Crime and Punishment explores village life, the social structure, the laws and what was deemed to have been a crime during the Dark Ages. In order to explore these themes, we will re-enact cases from the Anglo-Saxon period.
Anglo-Saxon Clothing and Textiles
Clothing and Textiles investigates textile production from animal to finished
product, showing how people in the past made their clothing. We will have a go with tools such as drop spindles. After this, the group will use miniature looms to create their own piece of woven fabric, which they are welcome to take home.
Anglo-Saxon Religion, Myths and Burials
Religion, Myths and Burial explores the religions practiced by the Anglo-Saxons, from their pagan beginnings to their conversion to Christianity. We will explore creation myths, create a rune charm necklace and explore burial practices.
Anglo-Saxon Herbs and Medicines
Herbs and Medicines explores medical practice in the Early Medieval Period, from the use of herbs to more formal forms of medicines. We will explore which herbs were used to cure people, what doctors would use to treat their patients and then make our own remedy right from the pages of Bald’s Leechbook.

Anglo-Saxon Monastic Life
Anglo-Saxon Monastic Life allows groups to walk in the footsteps of St Bede, by visiting St Paul’s Church – which used to be part of the monastic complex of St Paul’s Monastery. Pupils will be able to dress up in a monk’s habit and then perform an Anglo-Saxon Benedictine liturgy.
Bede: Monk, Historian, Scientist and Saint
This workshop explores one of the most important and famous Anglo-Saxons to have ever lived – Bede. Pupils will learn about his life in St Paul’s Monastery, his importance in our knowledge of the Anglo-Saxons, history and science.
